About the role

Based at our picturesque Pokolbin winery, the Technical Manager will oversee the Quality Assurance and HACCP systems, manage laboratory operations, and ensure compliance across all technical aspects of wine production. You will lead a small, dedicated team, and collaborate closely with various departments including the Winery, Vineyard, Operations and Sales teams.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Operate and maintain a robust QA program ensuring product quality and traceability from vineyard to bottle.
  • Implement and manage an accredited HACCP system to uphold food safety standards.
  • Ensure compliance with all relevant regulations, standards and code of practice.
  • Lead laboratory operations including staff management, budgeting and capital expenditure.
  • Manage SWA Sustainability and EMS Environmental Management Programs including audits and accreditation.
  • Oversee wine label compliance for domestic and export markets.
  • Support Sales Managers with regulatory documentation and tender submission documents.
  • Investigate and document customer complaints.
  • Conduct research trials as required by Senior Winemaker and support ongoing research and development initiatives to enhance wine quality.
  • Keeping up to date with all the latest wine science and technology.

The successful candidate will possess

  • 5+ years experience in Industrial Chemistry
  • 3+ years practical experience in Quality Assurance
  • Familiarity with third-party certification processes (eg. NATA, ISO-9000)
  • Strong computer literacy and data management skills
  • Proven ability to work collaboratively across teams and departments
