Trophy for Best Current Vintage White | Sydney Royal Wine Show

The Single Vineyard HVD Semillon is sourced from the Sign Post block in our HVD Vineyard, which was planted in 1908. This dry grown vineyard is situated between two dry creek beds and features free-draining, sandy soils over coarse river sand.  

The fruit was handpicked on 23 January and was lightly pressed before the free-run juice was fermented at cool temperatures in stainless steel tanks. The wine spent approximately six weeks on fine lees before being prepared for bottling in July 2026. 

Pale lime green in colour. Soft citrus burst and floral orange blossom aromatics. Juicy and salivating on the palate, with soft lime notes and a talcum-like texture and a gentle balancing acid. 

The Pokolbin Hills Vineyard was planted in 1970 and is located at the base of Pokolbin Mountain. Featuring ideal sandy loam soils, this vineyard is one of our top Semillon sites and has been bottled as a stand-alone wine released with our Private Bin Semillons since 2019. 

The fruit was handpicked on 14 January and was lightly pressed before the free-run juice was fermented at cool temperatures in stainless steel tanks. The wine spent approximately six weeks on fine lees before being prepared for bottling in July 2026. 

Pale lime green in colour. Lively orange sherbert and citrus floral aromatics. Spritely acid on the palate with lemon citrus purity, powerful and textural on the palate.

The Tyrrell family leases the Belford Vineyard. It is our northern-most Semillon vineyard and was planted in 1933. Situated furthest away from the Brokenback range, it is dry grown and has the most broken-down soil of all our vineyard sites, with a consistency like talcum powder.  

The fruit was handpicked on 21 January and was lightly pressed before the free-run juice was fermented at cool temperatures in stainless steel tanks. The wine spent approximately six weeks on fine lees before being prepared for bottling in July 2026. 

Pale straw in colour. Honeysuckle, lemon and lime citrus aromatics. Intense power on the palate with mineralic oyster shell and aspirin-like acid with mouth-filling power and length. One of the best Belford Semillon examples in recent memory.  

The Tyrrell family leases the Belford Vineyard. It is our northern-most Chardonnay vineyard and was planted in 1991. Situated furthest away from the Brokenback range, it has the most broken-down soil of all our vineyard sites, with a consistency similar to that of talcum powder.  

The fruit was handpicked on 26 January in perfect condition and immediately basket pressed. The juice was then cold settled for two days before fermentation began in stainless-steel tanks. The fermenting juice was transferred to French oak barriques for eight months maturation. 

Straw-like in colour. Rich, honeyed aromatics. Rich and dense on the palate with the distinct Belford honey character on show. Waxy mouthfeel. A Chardonnay lover’s Chardonnay. 

Vat 1 Semillon is only ever made from the best old blocks of Semillon on our estate. The centrepiece of this wine is always our Short Flat Vineyard, where the oldest plantings date back to 1923. The soil profile in this dry grown vineyard is unlike that of any of our other vineyards, which gives Vat 1 its amazing length and depth of fruit.  

Handpicked on 16, 17 and 19 January. The fruit was lightly pressed before the free-run juice was fermented at cool temperatures in stainless steel tanks. The wine then spent approximately six weeks on fine lees before being prepared for bottling in June 2026. 

Pale straw in colour. Cornflower and complex citrus oil aromatics. The shape of the palate is the defining feature of this Vat 1 – mouth coating, complex and with paraffin wax-like mouthfeel. Multi-dimensional citrus characters with the power and drive that Vat 1 is known for. One that will cellar for the long term.

Vat 63 Chardonnay Semillon is arguably the most unique wine Tyrrell’s produces, made purely because the family and staff love the wine style so much. In 2026, the Chardonnay (75%) came from our Short Flat Vineyard and Semillon (25%) from our Vat 1 blend. 

The Semillon was handpicked on 19 January and the Chardonnay on 10 and 15 January. Both varieties were vinified separately before being blended and bottled in June 2026. The Chardonnay component spent its time in mostly older French oak barriques, and the Semillon was made in a traditional unwooded style. Vat 63 Chardonnay Semillon is a blend steeped in history at Tyrrell’s and only ever made in great vintages. 

Crystaline green. Intriguing aromatics of cashew nut oak and honeydew. Rich and round on the front palate with the clean acid finish from the Semillon delivering pure citrus notes across the back palate. Complex and approachable, this would be an excellent food pairing wine. 

Vat 47 Chardonnay comes entirely from our Short Flat Vineyard, where the original Chardonnay vines were planted by Murray Tyrrell in 1968. The soil profile in this dry grown vineyard is unlike that of any of our other vineyards, which gives Vat 47 its unique character.  

The fruit was handpicked from 8 - 16 January and immediately basket pressed. The free-run juice was transferred to French oak barriques to complete fermentation and nine months maturation before bottling in October 2026. 

Bright light straw-like with hints of green. Bright and complex aromatics of stonefruit and grapefruit. Rich yet refined and elegant on the palate, with the stonefruit and grapefruit characters flowing through onto the palate. A powerful yet elegant Vat 47 that exhibits its pedigree and place as a benchmark Chardonnay. 

Our Johnno’s Vineyard is situated on the sandy flats of the Tyrrell Family Estate Ashmans. Planted in 1908, it features sandy soils and is planted alongside Mary Anne’s Creek, which runs all the way down to our iconic Short Flat Vineyard.  

The fruit was handpicked on 19 January and then carefully basket pressed. The juice was then cold settled for two days before being racked to another stainless-steel tank to begin fermentation with a small amount of solids. The wine was then bottled in July 2026. 

Pale lime green in colour. Lime sorbet and citrus floral aromatics. Pure lime citrus characters on the palate with Chablis-like power and length, with minerality and distinctive Johnno’s complexity and texture on the palate. 

TheOld VinesChardonnay block on HVD was planted in 1908 and is believed to be the oldest-producing Chardonnay vineyard in the world. This vineyard is situated between two dry creek beds and features free-draining, sandy soils over coarse river sand.  

The fruit was handpicked on 12 January and was immediately basket pressed. The juice was cold settled for two days before fermentation began in stainless steel tanks. The fermenting juice was then transferred to French oak puncheons for eight months’ maturation. 

Straw-like colour with green hues. Sweet oak spice with white stonefruit aromatics. Rich on the palate with white stonefruit and pear fruit characters on the palate. Mouth-filling Chardonnay, a richer example of recent years of HVD Chardonnay.
