We are proud to share that Tyrrell's has been named number 2 in Halliday's Top 100 Wineries for 2026.
Congratulations to the other wineries recognised in the Top 5. We are in excellent company, with Mount Mary taking the number one position this year, followed by Tyrrell’s, Yarra Yering, Giaconda and House of Arras. We also extend special congratulations to our Hunter Valley counterparts, Brokenwood and Mount Pleasant, on their inclusion in the Top 25.
Thank you to Katrina Butler and the team at Halliday for these warm words about Tyrrells: "Tyrrell’s is one of Australia’s great family wine businesses, with more than 160 years of history, five generations of family ownership and an unwavering commitment to the Hunter Valley. The estate has survived changing fashions and markets without losing sight of what makes it distinctive: old vines, long-lived wines, and the community that has loved and adored their family and their wines. The continuity at Tyrrell’s is unusually tangible: chief winemaker Andrew Spinaze has been at the address for 46 years, senior winemaker Mark Richardson for 30, and cellar foreman Darren Larson has just celebrated 40 years."
As fifth-generation winemaker and CEO Chris Tyrrell puts it: “Same vineyard, same yeast, same winemaker, same cellar, same cellar hands, same everything. And that is what makes us, us. It's not just the wine, it's the people, it's everything."
Katrina Butler continues, "Fourth-generation Bruce Tyrrell AM has spent a lifetime championing Hunter semillon, often putting the region before the winery. His daughter, Jane Tyrrell, says: “It’s always been Hunter Valley semillon before Tyrrell’s semillon. When he’s taken that message to the world, it’s Hunter before Tyrrell’s.” His advocacy helped put Hunter semillon on the best shelves here and abroad, and this year Bruce was inducted into the James Halliday Hall of Fame in recognition of that contribution.
"This year’s results show a pleasing symmetry. The 2025 Johnno’s Semillon, named after Bruce’s eldest son John and first made in 2009, is the first Tyrrell’s semillon to be named Halliday Semillon of the Year. It’s a fitting recognition of Bruce’s decades-long belief in the variety and its capacity to reward patience."
"More than 160 years in, Tyrrell’s remains deeply rooted in the Hunter and committed to ensuring its wines and old vines have plenty more chapters to come." - Katrina Butler, Halliday Halliday Wine Companion
We warmly congratulate everyone at Tyrrell's who contribute to our successes day in and day out.
