Exclusive to Private Bin members. Produced from one of our oldest vineyards. A classic 1970s style, light to medium bodied Hunter red. Delicate and spicy with great palate length and acid structure. The new oak component acts as a framework to the wine but does not overpower it, with the fruit being the primary focus of the wine.

Huon Hooke

97 Points - (290 dozen produced) Deep red/purple colour. The bouquet rich and meaty, with an earthy, sooty profundity; the palate tight and firm, medium to full-bodied, with a lean, somewhat stern firmness and lacking the fruit-sweetness seen in, for example, Vat 9. It's very tight, dry and elegant, with firm but not assertive tannins and totally classic lines. A wine for the cellar. Two days later: it had expanded and was much richer and fuller, a superb wine indeed that needed air to show its full worth. By the end of the bottle, it was the top wine of a sensational clutch of '14 Tyrrell reds.

Gary Walsh

95 Points - 290 dozen in a new big boy 2700L French oak cask. Johnno’s planted in 1908, with the vineyard having sandy soils, and thus, quite a different character to the other Tyrrell’s reds. NB: Private Bin members price is $60.BBQ sausage, sweet red fruit underneath, sage, spice. Medium bodied, supple, but dry and savoury, lighter in style, really fans out on the finish, with curry spices and strong tannin in the aftertaste. Rich raspberry flavour. Almost aniseed too. Shows its oak (by no means excessive, but in context) as a young wine, which may or may not suit the style, though certainly it will shrug it off in the years to come. Have patience. Come along for the journey.
