Vat 1 Hunter Semillon

Our flagship semillon and one of Australia's most awarded white wines.Vat 1 Hunter Semillon epitomised the benefits of patient bottle ageing that transforms this unoaked wine into a masterpiece.

First produced in 1963, the Vat 1 is fermented in temperature controlled stainless steel tanks before it quietly spends a few years 'resting' in bottles.

It is a classic Hunter Valley semillon showing a tightly structured palate with considerable length and breadth of citrus fruit flavours. This wine is only just beginning to evolve and show a hint of toasty, bottle aged complexity. An iconic Australian wine from what is a classic vintage for Hunter Valley semillon.

JAMES HALLIDAY WINE COMPANION

95 Points & Outstanding - ...lemon juice and lemon curd flavours follow logically from the bouquet, lemony acidity lingering long in the mouth after the wine is swallowed.

NICK STOCK, GOOD FOOD GUIDE 2013

95 Points - A great result in the 2012 vintage, this has the trademark Tyrrell’s class and concentration, mixing power with restraint. There’s plenty of lime and white nectarine fruit on offer here, with a really lovely lean yet juicy palate, great acidity and drive. Terrific.

LESTER JESBERG, WINEWISE

3 stars out of 5 - Lemony with a touch of snow pea sprout. Fresh but has green aromas and flavours.

I had a 2006 last weekend - a big but pleasant mistake. Needs up to another 10 years - at the moment it is just too young, very pale colour and subdued nose and light on the palate. Still, it was a very nice drink but I will have to be patient in future.
