The Shiraz components were selected from specific blocks within Old Hillside, NVC and the Short Flat that showed the characters we desired for this wine. The Pinot Noir was sourced from our HVD Vineyard.
The 2022 vintage, in many ways, was a mirror of 2021. With above average rainfall in the winter months, the vines were set up perfectly for the growing season. Cooler temperatures over the summer period meant that there was no rush to begin harvest and we began about seven to ten days later than normal. All of the fruit was in remarkable condition with intense fruit flavours coupled with high natural acidity. This blend of Shiraz (90%) and Pinot Noir (10%) is a modern interpretation of the great ‘Hunter River Burgundy’ styles made famous in the mid-1900s. Both varietals were vinified and matured separately before being blended in July and then bottled in August 2022.
The wine has an almost electric purple colour with an attractive aroma that jumps out of the glass. The palate is juicy and slippery, with mouth filling fruit, soft tannins and bright acidity.
