A continued evolution in style towards a more delicate and textural Chardonnay. The nose shows delicate citrus and white stonefruit with a hint of oak and sulphide lift. The palate has the generosity of Chardonnay in a toned down form. The fruit is balanced well with the fresh acidity and slight textural element from extended time on yeast lees

Huon Hooke, The Real Review

95 Points - Light to medium yellow colour, bright. The bouquet is fresh, youthful and alive, with lovely fresh clean citrusy fruit and a herbal note, the palate likewise generous but tightly-framed, focused and refined, with a long, long carry and great refinement. An ageworthy style.

James Halliday Wine Companion

95 Points - Tyrrell's made its first Vat 47 in '71 and soon embraced barrel fermentation in French oak, to all intents and purposes the leader of the pack, playing the same role that Max Lake had played with cabernet in '65-'66, so it's hardly surprising Tyrrell's is a skilled practitioner. Still a vibrant youthful straw-green; white peach and nectarine drive the engine on this lovely chardonnay; barrel ferment oak inputs and slinky acidity adding to the texture. Many of its gold medals and trophies were collected in '16, reflecting the overall complexity and balance of the wine.

John Fordham, Sunday Telegraph

More words of praise have followed the history of Vat 47 than any other Australian white wine. Born in the Hunter Valley 46 years ago as the nation's first commercially released chardonnay, this Andrew Spinaze-crafted effort sits at the very top of chardonnay's super-premium pecking order.
