This Special Release Shiraz Pinot Noir is a blend of Shiraz (70%) from our Baulkham Vineyard and Pinot Noir (30%) from HVD. The 2018 red vintage in the Hunter Valley was one where both Shiraz and Pinot Noir were of a very high quality. A very dry winter and spring, in fact, the driest since 2003 saw cropping levels smaller than usual. Floral, bright red fruit flavours with a touch of spice and incredible drinkability, this is modern interpretation of the great Hunter River Burgundies made famous in the mid-1900s.

A tasty spectrum of fruit – boysenberry, raspberry, cherry etc, – all flecked with aniseed, spice, vanilla bean and quiet Hunter earthiness or new leather, whichever pleases you more. Light to medium bodied, juicy and vibrant, a little rasp of tannin, fresh berry acidity, a delightful crisp finish with a spiced sour cherry/strawberry aftertaste. Italianate, in a way, and so smashable now, lightly chilled, or wait a year or two for additional complexity. Yes. – Gary Walsh
