This wine comes from our Johnno’s vineyard, which is situated just below the winery. Planted in 1908, it features sandy soils and is planted alongside Mary Anne’s Creek, which runs all the way down to our iconic Short Flat vineyard.
This year, the fruit was hand-picked on 4 February before immediately being basket pressed. The juice was then cold settled for two days before being racked to another stainless-steel tank to begin fermentation with a small amount of solids.
Made in a style reminiscent of the Hunter Semillons of yesteryear, the result is a more textured style of Semillon than we usually make. Pale in colour, it has a complex nose, with some citrus and a slight strawberry character that leads into an intense citrus core on the palate that is balanced by the wine’s textural elements, followed by the soft acid line that gives it great length.
