Selected Estate Vineyards: HVD planted 1984 and 2003 and NVC planted 1980/81

We selected the HVD and NVC vineyards from the 2019 vintage as they gave the combination of richness and finesse that we were looking for in the style of this wine. This wines will always be basket pressed, and matured in French oak puncheons (500 litre) where the 2019 vintage stayed for eight months. This winemaking approach is different to our other Chardonnays.  The 2019 Estate Grown Chardonnay has balanced fruit and oak on the nose and palate, and the typical Hunter Valley clean vibrant acid finish. There was no malolactic secondary fermentation. A moreish and truly satisfying Chardonnay.

Bright, light to mid-yellow colour, with a creamy yeast-lees aroma tinged with smoky sulfides. The palate is restrained, light-bodied and soft, approachable now and nicely balanced. It falls away a little quickly but is a very good wine in its station. A new wine in the Tyrrell portfolio.

Plenty of funk and matchstick, white peach, lime, a little spiced biscuit and vanilla oak. Flavoursome but fine, a little bit of grip, the ‘lime spider’ flavour is here, in classic Tyrrell’s style, and the finish is pretty long, sweetly succulent and laced with smokey and flinty texture. Lovely drink here.
