The 4 Acres Vineyard was planted in 1879 and is the oldest vineyard on the Tyrrell's property. It is planted in heavy, red volcanic clay soils and is always pruned and picked carefully by hand. This is a classic 4 Acres release. The wine is a bright purple with an exotic nose of red berries, confectionery, stalk and some spice. The palate is seamless and shows that a lighter style wine can still be very complex, with great fruit power. It has amazing fruit length, which is complemented by a fresh acid structure and soft subtle tannins.

Gary Walsh, Wine Front

95 Points - Fresh red berries, perhaps some blackberry, dusting of pepper, floral perfume, subtle dried herb and earth. Light to medium bodied, bright and fresh with a cranberry crunch, fresh picked red fruits, again the gentle earthiness and perfume, with a light drag of fine-grained tannin, drawing out to a playful rasp on a long cool finish. I feel it’s a wine for much later than now, and where the ripe vintages give from the get go, this will evolve and develop into a beautiful fine expression of Hunter ‘Burgundy’. It’s a lovely thing, for sure.
