Overview & Tasting Notes

Deep garnet red in colour, the aromas are dark and brooding with hints of chocolate and plum lifted by cinnamon spiced French oak. All those dark fruit flavours are framed on the palate by rich layered fruit tannins, tight powdery fine grained oak and the classic mineral texture you get from great Heathcote wines. Starting to hit its straps now and will reward careful cellaring.

Accolades

  • James Halliday (2015 Australian Wine Companion) on

94 Points - Light to medium purple-crimson; a fresh and juicy blend of red, blue and black fruits provide a fragrant bouquet and a supple, fresh light to medium-bodied palate with good line and length.

  • Tyson Stelzer on Mon, March 24th 2014

95 points - Classic Heathcote shiraz, in the most elegant guise. Tyrrell’s vineyard is now twenty years old, and in 2012 it put forth lovely purity and focus of black plum and blackberry fruit. Refined tannins, vibrant acid focus and supportive dark chocolate French oak (30% new) unite to build finely textured structure, seamless line and lingering persistence.

  • Australian Gourmet Traveller WINE on

An exceptional wine sourced from the oldest and most reliable vines growing in highly prized red Cambrian soil within Tyrrell’s Heathcote vineyard. Dark red in colour, Lunatiq Shiraz shows dark and brooding aromas with hints of chocolate and plum lifted by cinnamon spiced French oak. All the dark fruit flavours are framed on the palate by rich, layered fruit tannins, tight powdery fine-grained oak and the classic mineral texture you get from great Heathcote wines. This wine is starting to hit its straps now and it will also reward with careful cellaring.

  • James Halliday (2014 Australian Wine Companion) on

95 Points & Outstanding - Very attractive, gently spiced red and black fruits immediately spring from the bouquet, then lead the energetic and highly focused medium-bodied palate with great fruit purity; the tannins are fine, the finish very long. Drinking well to 2030.

  • West Australian on

92 Points - Captures the style of Heathcote perfectly. Tyrrell’s is making some terrific wines from its investment in this Victorian region. The name has something to do with the lunar phases, but I won’t try to interpret it. Grainy and precisely elegant shiraz with minerally gravelly characters emerging through the palate. Beautifully balanced and presented wine.

This really surprised me with just how rich and elegant it was. Beautiful balance of spiciness and berries, good dry tannins. This wine will cellar for at least 5 yrs+, but is also really tasty now once you let it breath a little.
    Top stuff!!

    Really good shiraz.
Spicy berries plum and bramble to start, but evolves and keeps delivering more and more flavour and dimension. Cherries and strawberries,  blueberry and mullberry, leafy dry tannins to finish.
A great wine that will develop in the cellar nicely.
