Overview & Tasting Notes

Bright colour with a youthful green hue. The nose shows only a hint of toasty bottle age development behind its prominent citrus fruit profile. This wine already shows all the characteristics of a semi mature Hunter semillon, with its wonderful balance between youth and age. A core of citrus fruit, with the palate just starting to fill out with some bottle age and the acid beginning to soften into what is a seamlessly structured wine.

  • James Halliday (2015 Wine Companion) on

94 Points - It seems both delicate and powerful at once. Citrus, hay, vanililla pod and lime leaf. It still cuts it’s length-wise but the mid-palate is soft, almost cuddly. Sophisticated but mostly, simple delicious.

  • Alan Hunter on Mon, May 26th 2014

92 Points - With its fresh lime and lemongrass lift, clean-cut acidity and moderate alcohol, this vineyard’s lineage suggests that with a little patience in the cellar it will develop complex tones of toasted nuts, honey and preserved lemon.

  • Robert Parker on

92 Points - The 2009 Stevens Vineyard Semillon is a stunning example of this, exhibiting golden delicious apple, fresh pears, orange rind and delicate jasmine aromas. Great intensity with a backbone of very high acidity. Somewhat austere at this stage. Minerals poking through in the very long finish.

  • Gary Walsh, The Wine Front on Mon, October 15th 2012

95 Points- Hunter Valley Semillon - you either get it or your don’t so I’m pretty happy just to preach to the converted. It’s the delicate one with subdued nose. Light, fine boned and ultra tight with squeezed lime, a slight grassiness and a well scrubbed fresh faced sort of cleanliness. It’s the classic restrained line and length style of Semillon, youthful and vigorous yet curiously approachable as a young wine. There’s no doubt that it will age particularly gracefully mind you, and that its best years are a long way ahead of it. A classic vintage.
