Pinot Noir

Pinot Noir is the red grape of Burgundy and is responsible for some of the world's greatest wines. Fickle and temperamental it is nevertheless revered by winemakers because of its ability to express its terroir. Pinot Noir needs a cool climate to show its true varietal expression. Pinot Noir can produce grapes with lifted fresh raspberry and plum aromas and flavours, and enough acid and tannin to give structure and texture to the wine. Pinot Noir styles vary from light bodied through to medium bodied wines. The influence of oak is normally minimal but can add hints of spicy, smoky and mocha tones. Tyrrell’s Wines pioneered Pinot Noir in Australia with the first commercial plantings in the early 1970’s. Our Pinot Noir’s are characterised by sweet varietal fruit, subtle savoury oak and smooth, soft tannins.
