How did you find your way into the wine industry? I was practically born into the wine industry. My father was the General Manager at Tyrrell's for 37 years and I started coming to work with him when I was only one. I kept coming throughout my school years and spent holidays at the winery. I loved being around the winery at vintage and listening to Mr. (Murray) Tyrrell ordering the staff, or sometimes me, to do something. I also liked helping with ramming vats, and the red hands that went along with it. I was 16 when I started full-time work for Tyrrell’s and have been here for 18 years. Over the years I have moved through the business from storeroom, Cellar Door, local sales rep, cellar hand and now Cellar Door Manager. 

What do you love most about your job? All of the different people I get to meet on a daily basis. We have so many visitors to the winery and it is great to share my passion for the company and our products with them.

Which Tyrrell’s wines do you always encourage customers to try and why?  I like to show customers the wines that I like to drink, and I am fortunate to have been brought up on Tyrrell’s finest: Vat 1 Semillon, Vat 47 Chardonnay and Vat 9 Shiraz. I show a lot of the Hunter Heroes range to customers to show them the honest style of the Hunter Valley.

What has been your most interesting wine experience? I think I'm very lucky to have been around to meet the likes of Len Evans and Mr. Tyrrell. I spent a lot of time with Mr. Tyrrell when I was growing up. In my early days I would come out to work on a Saturday morning with dad and have bacon and eggs with the staff and then I would go out for the morning with Mr. Tyrrell in the cattle truck and move the cattle around.

What is your favorite food and wine combination? Aged Vat 1 Semillon (over 10 years old) and oysters.

When you’re not behind the counter at our Cellar Door, what can we find you doing? My big passion outside of the wine industry is football (soccer). I have played football as a representative of Great Britain.
